Thanks to all who chimed in on why excellence is important. Here’s my take on it:
Most people today are surrounded by excellence. Large venue concerts often sound great. Television dramas have an excellence in their production values. Filmmakers and record producers are constantly tweaking their products and consistently deliver excellent results. I know there are many exceptions, but I hope you get my point.
For someone to walk into a church and not experience excellence only reinforces the subtle and dangerous notion that church has nothing to do with the rest of their lives. It’s just something we do on Sunday.
When applied to today’s culture, I believe excellence is a necessary component of relevance.
