Since Microsoft has discontinued development and support for the Macintosh Windows Media player, I have been experimenting with different streaming media solutions. I know that Microsoft made this move a while back, but it wasn’t until our streaming media host upgraded to the latest server software that it became an issue for our users. Telestream has a plug in for Quicktime called Flip for Mac, but I’m not crazy about the way my browser handle the live stream from our Windows Media server. I do have the pro version of their product and it has come in very handy for exporting .wmv files from Final Cut Pro.
We’re looking at Lightcast Media and will be switching over to them very soon. It will be streaming flash video. Click here for a sample flash video of our service. Terry Storch, one of the principles of the company, has been very responsive to my inquiries and very helpful on the phone. Other churches who currently use Lightcast Media are Granger Community Church, Seacoast Church and National Community Church.
